Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Hiring illegal aliens

One of my friends is concerned about having employed an illegal alien because he was not aware of the consequences.

Even though the illegal alien is no longer employed, could there be any legal consequences should this employment surfaced in the future for any reasons ?
