Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

I'm holding a H1b visa which is valid until June 2012. My h1b visa was stamped in August 2011. Now my company wants to apply for an amendment as I'm planning to change from full time to part time. But I'm planning to travel outside US in March. I want to know if it is safe to travel outside the country while my amendment process is on pending? Will I have any issues at the port of entry?
