Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

imigration status affected by bankruptsy.

I am in proceedings to tie up my

status in the United States, but I am

facing forclosure on my home and

there is only one way that I could

save the roof over my head is to file

bankruptsy. I am worried that the

U.S. is going to deney my status

because of the bankruptsy. Whats

the law say about this?

There is no connection between the two. The only limitation might be in the event you married a US spouse or if you were petitioned by a US citizen child over 21, then if you needed to supplement their income to meet the poverty guideline but couldn't meet it due to financial limitations, then there could be an issue, but it is not because of bankruptcy at all. The problem is possible to cure too. I don't think there are issues, however, do check with a state's criminal lawyer. You may have some sort of criminal violation without knowing it. I know there is no such thing as debtor's prison which is legal, you can't go to jail because of poverty, though there might be something hidden in your facts that I can't see.
