Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
Immigration
Can my boss represent me at my immigration hearing. he is a law school graduate who does not practice law but has sufficient legal skills gained through the running of his business and handling legal matters for that business and his dealings with government housing and other federal programs.

Interesting question. If doing so under the "law graduate" route, the regulations allows that but only if your boss is representing you under the supervision of a licensed attorney AND is permitted to do so by the immigration judge or officer in the case, who may require him to appear with the supervising attorney. If he's doing so under the "reputable individual" route, he may represent you if the judge or officer allows so. But overall, bad idea. Get an immigration attorney. Way too specialized proceedings and the money you save now (he can't charge you for representation) may cost you more in the end as your boss probably will get overwhelmed and make mistakes and get you removed (deported, assuming you're in removal proceedings).

Re: Immigration
No, has to be a member of some bar to represent you. This matter is complex and you should not try to do it yourself so you should get an attorney to discuss your options. If you are located in Southern California, you can email me your contact info, so we can discuss your particular situation. There is no charge for consultation.
Re: Immigration
I would not recommend your boss handle your immigration. Immigration law is extremely complex and changes on a daily basis. No attorney, even those who practice nothing but immigration law can know all of it. Therefore, it is extremely important to hire competent counsel.
I am a certified specialist in immigration law, with 30 years experience, and a former commissioner to the State Bar of CA for certification. I wouldn't dream of hiring a tax attorney or a civil litigator to do an immigration case. I've seen the work of lawyers in other specialties and it has always been sub-par. The risks are large and consequences sometimes irreparable.
