Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Immigration by Marriage

I am a Canadian Citizen.

My husband is an US Citizen.

Last month, we married in Taiwan.

When we come to the US, the custom asked my why I am coming to the US. I told them that I was married to my husband and I want to come to the US to get registered so I can live in the US. US custom said I cannot come in without an immigration visa. So they had me on a controlled exit that I have to leave the US by June 15th. What should I do now? Do I need to leave US and apply for an immigration visa? How long would that take? One custom officer told me that my husband can petition for me to become a resident. If so, does that mean I can have my controlled exit status removed? Or do I still need to leave the US regardless. Please help. Thank you.

Re: Immigration by Marriage

You need to appear before an Immigration Judge and you have a good chance that the Judge would allow you to stay in the U.S. and apply for permanent residence here.
