Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Immigration question:

Let say someone enteres the United States from another country, like Guatemala or Mexico, without proper documentation, then once they are in the U.S. they purchase identification documents which allow them to take on a job, and even get a drivers license. Are they breaking the law or would there actions be considered in any way "Illegal"?

Thank you.
