hi i have withholding of removal status for 6 years i m from pakistan and the condition of my country seem not to get better could u tell me there is any thing in law that i can apply for green card or i have to live like this forever thank u

The issue at this point is whether the CIS has stated what their reasons for failure to rule on your petition for more than a year may be.

There may be issues of incompetence on the part of either the CIS or federal law enforcement,upon whom the CIS will depend for a proper security background check for your approvability for your asylum to be granted. Once asylum is granted you may petition for a green card within one year.

Dear Inquirer:

Since withholding of removal is technically an order of removal, you cannot file for a green card solely on the basis of the withholding status, in contrast to asylum.

If you have some other, independent basis to seek immigrant status, it may be possible to reopen the case and file for a green card on that basis.
