Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
income from other source
I recently moved to USA from India (H1B status). I am a software engineer and i have moved here with my wife. My wife is on H4 status. I live in San Francisco,CA.
1) Recently i found few web sites who will pay ($10 to $100) for answering their surveys through Internet. Approximately my income from this source may be about $100 to $500 in a month. I would like to know whether it is legal for me to make money this way. I will be doing this as a hobby and i will be doing it from home and will be spending say 1 to 2 hours in a day. My wife is also interested in participating this. Can she do that?
2) Is it legal for a person on H1B visa status to earn money through Network Marketing?.

Re: income from other source
technically, legally speaking, you are not authorizaed to work anywhere except for your employer who petitioned you. The case for H-1B status was filed by and on behalf of your employer. Therefore, you are legally considered just a beneficiary of the petition filed by your employer. it gives them legal authorization to employ you. I would not interpret that to say that you are therefore obliged to engage in additional employment without independent authorization on behalf of yourself.

You are not supposed to have any income outside of your employment...
