Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

J1 waiver advisory opinion and lost IAP-66. THANKS!

I came here as a J1 high school exchange student in Aug 98. one year later i filed a status change to F1 and an advisory opinion from the US information agency was sent to my lawyer, stating I am NOT subject to the two year home country residency becuase no government funding is invovled and my skills do not apply. Now I have graduated as a F1 on OPT and ready to file a H1b in April. However I lost that advisory opinion letter AND my IAP-66, so I can't even file for another advisory opinion. The government representatives are giving me the runarounds.. Is there anything I can do in this situation? I don't want to get the H1b rejected becuase of the J1 two year restriction.

Thanks!

You can try to do a Freedom of Information Act Request with the Department of State. It may be difficult because of the length of time since these documents were issued, but it's worth a try. We would be happy to assist. Feel free to give me a call.
