Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
What if you have lived here all your life, but you were immigrated illegally
What if you were brought to the U.S. as a child?, and never got immigrated properly, found out after working on an social security number for 15 to 20 years that it wasn't yours and then never took care of it? and now you are 84 years old and dying of cancer, and your daughter is dying of cancer, and your grandaugher has to take care of you, and you don't know how to get S.S.I. for yourself to help pay the bills? This question is asked from me on behalf of an elderly person who speaks perfect english. Thank you very much, RDP

Re: What if you have lived here all your life, but you were immigrated illegally
There is a way for this person to get their green card if they can show they've been here since before 1972: letters, receipts, bills, etc. However, it can take a while, maybe up to a year or more -- the INS is slow. By that time, they might already have died from the cancer, I'm sorry to say, so it wouldn't do any good to get the SSI. Nevertheless, if you're still interested, contact my office.
