Re: marriage to foreigner

The basic applications are Forms I-130 and I-485. However, there are so many documents to be filed in support of those forms, such as birth certificates, marriage certificate, tax documents, Affidavit of Support, photos, joint bills, etc. to prove a real marriage that I highly recommend you employ the services of an immigration attorney. Even seemingly straightforward cases can run into problems that delay them for years.

Am I biased toward recommending that you hire an attorney? Sure. I got nothing against self-help, but I (and I'm sure every immigration attorney) have seen too many self-prepared cases go wrong when they could have been better.

Re: marriage to foreigner

I'm not surprised. If it 's routine, there are a number of forms, medical exam, photographs, tax return, letter, bank statement, certificates (birth, marriage and divorce, if applicable) that are needed. If it's not routine, then the nuances and requirements can vary quite a bit.
