Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

I have read that is possible to get a job with a company that sponsors H-1B visas, and usually these companies pay $5k+ to bring a worker from abroad:

1. is this fee usually split?

I also have read that there is the Employment Authorization Document, which costs $350, and takes up to 3 months, which alien would pay when s/he is in the States:

2. Could I travel to the States with a business visa and then ask for this permit to start working?

Unfortunately, the new H-1B visas are closed for the year, unless you are petitioned by a government entity or institution of higher education.

The petitioner should be paying all the immigration fees. I cannot advise you regarding the $5,000 fee you refer to.

The EAD is generally for students, spouses of E & L visa holders, asylees & people filing for a greencard. You cannot enter with any other type of non-immigrant visa, such as a B-1, & apply for an EAD.
