Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Relocating to the States from Britain

My boyfriend has just been offered to relocate (same company) from UK to Los Angeles. He is fine with visa and work permit. I would like to go to for 3 years with him, and I will not be working at all.

1, How do I start the process (i.e forms, legal requirements)

2, Do we need to be married.

3, How long will this process take.

Thank you & regards,

Re: Relocating to the States from Britain

A lot of people who are not married ask this type of questions. Sorry, but, boyfriends and girlfriends cannot benefit from each other's immigration status. You need to be married to your boyfriend if you want to accompany him to the U.S. on HIS visa. Most visa categories have provisions for spouses and children to accompany the principal. Of course, if you can qualify for a US visa on your own in some category, then you don't need to be married to your boyfriend.
