Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
sponsorship requirement
Hi, I'm a US citizen and I'd like to know if i can sponsor a person to the US who is my cousin, or my niece? Basically, what are the sponsorship requirements? Thank you very much for taking your time to answer my question.

Re: sponsorship requirement
Dear Inquirer:
Petitions may be filed by parents for their children and sons and daughters, by adult US Citizens for their parents, between spouses and by US Citizen siblings for another sibling. There is no category for a person to petition a cousin or a niece.
I recommend that you email [email protected] or visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com if you would like to schedule an appointment for a confidential consultation to discuss this matter further.
Re: sponsorship requirement
No, but if one of your parents files for the other parent, then the kids might be able to immigrate OR the niece or nephew have another way(s) of immigrating. They could have a few options depending on the details.

Re: sponsorship requirement
Good Morning:
Unfortunately, a person can only petition an immediate relative for their family based petition for a green card...someone who is a child, spouse, parent or sibling. There may be a way to adopt your niece and then sponsor her, provided she meets the age requirement and you qualify.
Alternatively, they may be able to get a green card through employment or investment, provided they meet specific requirements including among others, degree, background and/or experience.
If they want to come to the US on a TEMPORARY stay, there are many options for which they may qualify, including among others, a student visa, visitor visa and temporary employment visa.
To discuss your options further, kindly email me at [email protected], or refer to our contact information on our website at www.loretomedinalaw.com. We offer a FREE initial consultation and payment plans.
