Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Student Illegal Immigration

I am a college student at a 4 year univeristy in san francisco, ca. I recently turned 21 and from what i understand, i entered legally when i was very young and overstayed my tourist visa. I didnt find this out until very recently and i am in a california college thanks to california assembly bill AB540.

What i want to find out is what my options are so that i may be able to legally work and contribute to the society. I have never been in any legal trouble and i have never been illegally employed as i am too scared of getting in trouble and ruining my spotless record. Is there anything i can do or apply for that will ease my situation?

Re: Student Illegal Immigration

Unfortunately, the U.S. Congress did not pass the DREAM Act, which is a law proposal aimed to help people in your situation to legalize their status and obtain immigration benefits. With the current anti-immigrant state of affairs, your only option would be to marry a U.S. Citizen in good faith and apply for permanent residence ("green card") through marriage.
