Legal Question in Immigration Law in California
five year removal
I was given my permanent residency through being a ward of the state in 1991 through children services. I crossed the border in 2005 and was detained because I tried crossing via car my child's mom who does not have any legal papers at this time because they are in the proccess with INS. When I was in the hearing, I requested to leave to mexico because my daughter and her mom did not have anybody or money while I was detained. The judge did not want to grant me my request, but I begged because I thought of my daughters well being in mexico. I was deported to tijuana and given a paper that said I would not be able to enter for approx. 5 yrs. I have been in cal. for approx. 3 yrs since the incident and got my Drivers License renewed and have been working with my social sec. card. Do you think the judge did take my papers away? How can I find out? I actually waited from the deportation date for 1yr and then went to try and get my DMV lisence, which I got.

Re: five year removal
You really should consult an Immigration Attorney, because there are many ways to get residency, some of which you may already have. This matter is complex and you should not try to do it yourself so you should get an attorney to discuss your options. If you are located in Southern California, you can email me your contact info, so we can discuss your particular situation. There is no charge for consultation

Even though you were able to get your driver's license renewed, that does not mean the judge's order was not executed. The DMV is a separate agency from Immigration Services.
The immigration court where your case was heard should have your case file, but if you contact them, there are potential risks, since you would be informing them of your unlawful presence here.
