Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
Beneficiary to life Insurance
My friend (x mother in law)just pasted away and left me benefiary to a life insurance policy. Her son is coming to me now and saying I need to give him $4000.00 for the funeral expences according to a will.
Do I write him a check or is this my money only. I contacted the insurance company and they said I am the only one on this policy.
She told me when she was alive that I was getting this money.

Insurance policies are outside the control of the will. It is your money (assuming you are correct about being the sole beneficiary). Do what you will with it, but honor your friend's memory, of course. -Robert

Why don't you ask him to see a copy of the will, read it, and do what is right even if that is not necessarily what is legal.
