Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

car accident advice

Three weeks ago, a co-worker brought his friends sports car into work. The cars owner knew and accepted that my coworker was driving his sports car. I drove the sports car with my coworker, and I ended up hitting a phone pole at a pretty low speed.

We are both fine.My coworker wanted to take the "heat", so at the time of the accident, he said that if anyone asks, he was driving, not me. (nobody saw the accident, and the police never arrived.) The owner arrives at the scene under the impression that my coworker was driving and I was the passenger. I told my coworker that I would pay for the damages (which at the time I thought would not exceed $10,000.) My coworker told me that his friend now knows that I was driving the car. The owner is ok with this. This is where I need advice. The repair charges came out to $40,000! Originally, I didn't want to get insurance companies involved because 1.) I thought I could pay for the damages out of my pocket, & 2.) the car's owner would have found out that I was driving the car. Is it too late for me to call my insurance company and tell them about what happened. Do you think my insurance company would cover the damages since I was driving the car. Help!

Re: car accident advice

call them and report it at once. whether they cover you or not depends on the language in the policy.
