Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Car insurance Company said they would pay for accident but didn't

My friend got into a car accident and it was her fault. Her insurance company said they would pay the other person in the accident's medical bills etc. The other person was seriously injured. Now the insurance company for my friend is not paying the medical bills or anything and my friend is getting sued by the other person in the accident. The lawyer for the injured person advised my friend to sue the insurance company and asked for permission for them to also sue the insurance company and they would drop the law suit against my friend. She is stressed and not sure what to do. I am worried for her and don't know what she should do also.

Re: Car insurance Company said they would pay for accident but didn't

Did your friend's insurer agree to defend her and admit coverage? Did she get a reservation of rights letter? Did her insurer hire her a lawyer for the injury suit? How severely is the other person injured? How much are your friend's policy limits? Your friend may want to contact a private lawyer to obtain some information so she knows what her rights are as well as how to enforce them. Sooner is much better than later.

She may not want to discuss these things with any lawyer hired by the insurer right now. Better to have her own counsel and if there is no problem, he or she will advise her of that fact.
