Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Car Theft Liability

My vehicle was towed Friday night to a repair shop. I signed to release for repairs. The shop called me Monday morning to inform me that my vehicle had been stolen. Does my signature release them from the liability of theft of my vehicle on their premises?

Re: Car Theft Liability

Very good case law in California may help you. The applicable legal concept is called a bailment, and this law is generally favorable to the owner of the property. The terms of the contract will be very important, but may not be enforceable. If you have insurance, you should turn this over to your insurance company, and they will look into pursuing the garage. If not, I would be interested in taking a look at your case. Let me know if you would like me to help.
