Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Contesting Life Insurance Beneficiary

I have contested the life insurance claim of my exhusband on behalf of our daughters as instructed by his parents. His exfiance was the last named beneficiary. There is no will. I was told the named beneficiary had been changed several times. At one time his mother was listed, but I do not believe he ever listed the girls. I attempted to contact the beneficiary but she refuses to return any calls. The relationship between her and him had ended months before his death. Majority of his belongings and paperwork are missing. The exfiance has been in multiple relationships that she manipulates to get the material items she wants and then moves on and that is the reason for the breakup. I was thinking of letting his parents know that if they want the children to receive the funds then maybe they should pursue this since at one point the mother was the named beneficiary. The other thing I was wondering could this go into probate and have the state decide how if any the proceeds should be dispursed. I am hoping to receive an answer if there is a legal challenge or not. Any opinion would be appreciated, I was given notice that I have a week to respond and I do not have any money to pay the $1000 for an attorney to write a letter.

Re: Contesting Life Insurance Beneficiary

Perhaps you should contact the lawyer who handled your divorce - frequently insurance issues are handled in marital agreements. This is in addition to letting the grandparents get involved.
