Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

I'm being harrassed by the by the other guys insurance

In march of 97 I was merged into by another car. Since damage was minimal to my car I did not inform the police per the other drivers request. Now months later the insurance company is telling me that I must pay for damages. They will not answer any questions that I have and they have given me four (4) different names of the person who was supposedly driving, this is because the person driving was not the name on the policy. The only information they have regarding the accident is my name, my phone #, and some lady who says that I caused this accident. Now I am being told by them I have no chioce in the matter and I must either pay or get sued. PLEASE TELL ME HOW I CAN PROTECT MYSELF.

Unreported accident

The other insurance company is not "harassing" you;they're just asserting a legal claim which may or may not be valid.

Either way, you have to defend yourself. You probably didn't report it to your insurance company, but you should do so immediately.

Because of your delay, your insurance company may disclaim coverage because of late notice.

Or else hire a lawyer to defend you. Or pay their claim.

The above does not constitute legal opinion and is offered for the purposes of discussion only. The law differs in every jurisdiction, andyou should not rely on any opinion except that of an attorney you have retained, who has a professional duty to advise you after being fullyinformed of all the pertinent facts and who is familiar with the applicable law.
