Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
HELP-Uninsured involved in an accident
I was in an accident a year and a half ago. I believed it wasn't my fault but a witness said it was. The lady's car flipped and was totalled, I only had a 2x6 inch dent on the back of my vehicle. I have never heard anything about it and I didn't have insurance at the time. A collection company called me 2 days ago and said I owe $16,000 and this was the first thing I have heard. I never went to court or anything. I am just unsure as to what to do, who to call, and what my rights are.

Re: HELP-Uninsured involved in an accident
You might want to write back solely to dispute that you owe anything. You don't need to provide an explanation. They have 2 years from the date of accident to sue if she was hurt, 3 years for property damage, generally, with some exceptions. Keep a copy of your letter.
