Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
homeowners insurance
I purchased a home in July 07 with 67,000 down of my monies with a now ex boyfriend. His name is on deed and insurance policy but 3 weeks into the deal he backed out and moved out. The agreement was to pay 1/2 each of payments which he has held over my head and given some here and there but has not paid anything for several months now. Last week my house went up in flames with all my personal belongings and now he is holding up the claim and not returning calls and now is refusing to sign any of the checks so that I can be paid back for my current expenses. He lost nothing in the fire, I lost all including my dog and almost my life. Can i bifurcate his signatures as this is a game of control for him and yet it is wrecking my life.

Re: homeowners insurance
Unfortunately, the insurance company is required to put both names on the settlement check. So, you will have to find a way to get his signature or file in court to get a determination that his signature is not required.
