increase on homeowner insurance
countrywide mortgage is increasing my coverage for homeowners insurance to cover the cost of the loan not th e dwelling is that legal in california

What type of insurance is it? If it is mortgage insurance, that is fine. If it is homeowners insurance, then the value of the house should be covered.

The provisions of the loan document and/or the deed of trust probably require this, and if so, yes because you agreed to it. Read all of the fine print.
