Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Liability

I am looking to start a small business involving taking 12 school age children on outings to local museums and theatres in the city. We will be driving in a rented (insured) van. We will only be in public places. I have two other adults overseeing the kids with me. What are my concerns regarding liability? Must the parents sign waiver or should we stipulate anything in a contract or can we just be casual having the parents pay us by check without a formal contract?

Re: Liability

You are undertaking substantial liability in the new business. I suggest you consult an attorney to talk about a corporation/llc, or other protective business formats. You should obtain CGL and auto and professional liability coverage -and I suggest you check and see what kind of state/local license you may need to engage in child care. You are almost operating a camp for children. I don't think you can just open up for business.

Re: Liability

A cotract or waiver is not legally required but it would be a good idea. I would also have liability insureance on the business, not just the van.
