Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Hello,

I live in California, I was walking across a crosswalk with my dog and we were both hit by a car. My dog has substantial medical needs so far over 6000 dollars, I however have less, I have bruises and back + neck pain, I've also missed 1 day of work so far. I want to pay for my dogs surgery now, but I'm not sure if I should wait to hear back from the drivers insurance company first or not.

So I guess my questions are:

1. I don't have medical insurance and I'm nervous about medical visits, I have an appointment at a free clinic in a couple days..

2. Should I just pay for my dogs surgery now and hope for the best? or wait to hear from drivers insurance? the quote for surgery is very expensive.

3. Do I need a lawyer?

A lawyer will help you deal in a world you are not familiar with, but in which the defendant's insurance company is an expert. So no, you don't absolutely need a lawyer unless you are able to get the defendant or his insurer to agree to pay all medical and rehabilitation expenses for your pet to fully recover. And you also have a claim for your pain and suffering and medical treatment so you fully recover. You might also be entitled to medical insurance under your own auto insurance policy.) A lawyer can also help you get proper medical attention without you having to pay for it up front; many doctors take cases on a "lien" basis and agree to treat now and get paid later.

So a lawyer will be of great benefit to you. Just make sure you get the right one. Good luck.
