Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

registered owner

My boyfriend recently passed away he signed his 1981 cadillac over to me, I was in the process of completing the registration process (needed smog, signature on missing title) I took out insurance and got uninsured motorists and liability. The car was parked in front of my house and was hit and totaled by a reckless driver. Since I was still in the process of completing the registration will I be able to be reimbursed for the damages. The other vehicle was a company vehicle. My name is listed as the registered owner.

Re: registered owner

From what you write, it sounds like you should, as long as you have the ability to prove that you are the owner. However, you also should know that a 1981 Cadillac might not have that much intrinsic value so that's probably where your fight will be -- over how to value the car.
