Re: reintated insurance coverage

Usually when insurance coverage is cancelled the insurance company will send you a letter stating that you have a certain amount of days to pay the premium or find a new insurance company. If you do not pay by the date given your insurance is no longer in effect. You should review your records and see if you received a letter to that effect. If you did and the accident occurred within the time given you were insured. If it did not, you were not covered. You should still report the claim. If you were not at fault, the other driver's insurance company is still liable to pay hard damages such as property damage, medical bills, and lost wages. If you were not insured, you are not entitled to pain and suffering. If you were, you are entitled to pain and suffering. NO! In California, if the insurer gave the proper notice of cancelation for failure to pay premium, you can be reinstated, but they will not provide coverage for the period of lapse whether it is a day or a week. Call if you have any questions. Joel W. Meskin, Esq. 818/783-3391
