Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
I sold a car that was in a accident 1 week later and now I,m being sued.
the person I sold the car to didnt register the car before the accident, and i didnt notify the DMV for 3 weeks that I sold it. now the person that got hit, his insurance co.(geico) is sueing me for $58000.00. When I sold the car it wasnt running, so I didnt have insurance on it when i sold it. and my Insurance co. wont help me.

What documentation do you have that you sold the car? Did he sign anything? If you can prove you did not own the car, you may have a defense to this. If you cannot, you still may only be on the hook for a limited amount. However, you want to talk to an experienced attorney about this as soon as possible. There are certain time limits and the insurance company could obtain a default judgment if you do not respond promptly.
