Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
what to do if someone sues me
I was involved in a car accident 1 years and 10 months back. Now the other driver is suing me for 1/2 million dollars. My insurance coverage is 100/300/100.
I talked to my insurance agent and she said I dont need to worry and she will take care of it. She said that they (insurance co) will try to settle or assign my case a lawyer.
But I am worried about it. Do I need to get a lawyer? What should someone do in case like this?
Thank You!

Your insurance company is required to try to resolve the case within your policy limits if you were liable. Make sure you provide to them a copy of the complaint and summons and cooperate fully with your insurance carrier.

If a lawsuit happens, then you may want to talk to a coverage attorney to advise you of your rights and about the insurer's duties to you. I would now write your insurer and tell them that you want copies of any letters they send to the claimant, and copies of any settlement demands made and the insurer's responses. Deal with your insurer - to and from - in writing - not just on the phone. Adjusters have a very large turnover, and you may not be able to confirm something you need until it is too late.
