Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
time limit on medical bills
What is the statuate of limitations on a medical bill? How long can a doctor and/or hospital charge you for visits, for example as long as eight years ago? Especially when you paid the asked for co-pay, then they come back and say you have to pay the whole thing?

Re: time limit on medical bills
Four years is the maximum for breach of contract.
With acceptance of co-pay, your plan probably paid the "negotiated rate" and the provider wants the balance of the "retail" price. This is not legal under most plans, and you would not be responsible.
Write and ask for a complete accounting from the provider - for all charges, payments from you, and payments from any insurer/plan.
