Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

I was the uninsured motorist

I ''bumped'' an old beat-up pick-up

truck --- My insurance had just been cancelled and now I got a

letter from a collection agency

hired by his insurance company.

They want $2500 --- I am single a

mother of two, I make $1200/month

and there is no way I can pay them.

What can I do?

You can try to set up a payment plan with them, ignore them and see if they sue you (they probably will) or talk to an attorney and try to have something negotiated on your behalf. There are attorneys who will help you either pro bono or at a reduced rate.
