Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
Vehicle theft
My son's vehicle was stolen from the parking lot at his place of employment. It is private property. He carried only liability insurance. He works for a company that deals with salvaged vehicles, so there are tow services in and out all day. It is my understanding there is no security or monitoring of the lot which is shared by employees. Is there any recourse for my son through his employer's property insurance, if for no other reason, the liability arising from failed property security?

Re: Vehicle theft
There may be through his employer's auto or liability coverages. But he should consider what the employer might do if he makes this claim. He might want to discuss this with the employer first because the employer might say no. Then your son has a practical decision to make.

Re: Vehicle theft
No, unless the employer promised to protect cars on its property and failed to keep that promise. This is very unlikely.
The people at fault are the ones who stole your son's car, not the employer. Your son could have bought insurance against theft, and he can't make his employer give him the benefits he chose not to buy.
