Legal Question in Insurance Law in California
Would My Wife Be Guilty of GTA?
My wife (before we met) had a DUI (18 mos.ago. Suspended Lic.) I left her 9 days ago... She got so depressed that she tried to commit suicide (they kept her for three days) they gave her meds...She came by my parents house drinking and was totaly out of it (meds.& alcohol) when I would'nt go with her she took my car (the key on the table)..went six blocks and hit a parked van.
Will my full coverage cover this accident (of course she is not on the policy)? I know she didn't think she was stealing the car ( I don't want her to be in more trouble than she's in already...) And do they always impound a car for 30 days for investigation? What kind of trouble is shy looking at? What liability am I looking at?... Options???

You will be covered under your insurance. However,
unless you press charges against her for the accident
you are liable for the inpound fees which could run
in excess of $800. Good luck.
Re: Would My Wife Be Guilty of GTA?
First, you are only legally responsible if you gave her permission to drive which you did not. She is not guilty of GTA, a felony but is guilty of driving without owners consent, a misdemeanor. Your insurance should cover you. just turn it over to them and let them handle it.
