wrongful termination
does my employer ( an insurance company) have to accept my resignation? or can they ignore it and terminate me?

If you give a resignation, effective on a certain date in the future, your company has the ability under California law to terminate you sooner than your resignation date.
For example, if you follow the etiquette and give two weeks notice, absent an employment contract, it is legal for your employer to terminate you the same day they receive your notice.
