copyrights for documentary pilot

i am producing a historical documentary pilot to present to distributors. do i need to get copyrights for all of the content, music, mention of a book, archive photos, ect? or can i piece a show together as an example. the pilot would not be for sale. thanks,--name removed--hines

According to the current copyright laws, a work is copyrighted the moment it is put into a tangible medium. So, your work does not need to be registered with the Copyright office to get copyright protection. Registration with the copyright office is necessary if you plan on suing someone for infringing on or making unauthorized use of your material.
