How would I go about getting a mechanical license to do a cover song? How much do these typically cost?

Contact the Harry Fox Agency, fill out the online form, and pay the fee. I believe you can find them at http://www.harryfox.com/

the Statutory rate is 9.1 cents per copy (per song). The Harry Fox license will probably require a minimum of 1000 units or something.
