Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Can I post a recipe that is copyrighted to an online forum?

Is it legal to post (upload online to the Good Eats section) a single recipe from a copyrighted cookbook. The online location it is being posted to is BMUG (Berkeley Macintosh Users group) a non profit, online, members only organization?....TIA (Thanks in anticipation)

Posting Copyrighted Material

This is an unsettled area of law. The general consensus of the legal community is that this would be a violation of the Coapyright Act and that within a year or two, there will be specific legislation covering Internet postings. The "sfe and Prudent" thing to do is post a message to the forum group that tells people where they can find a good recipe and then direct them to where it can be found.
