Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California
Using Prayers on Products
Can I use the AA Serenity Prayer on a
product like a bookmark , T-shirt or
magnet that will be sold? On another
note, what about other prayers and
religious passages used in the Bible?

Re: Using Prayers on Products
You will need to get permission to use any prayer that belongs to someone else, if you plan to make money off of it. We can assist you in determining who owns what and what is in the public domain.

Prayers written by or for AA will not be public domain, and you'll need permission. With respect to anything in the Bible, I think it is commonly considered that God is the author and I have never heard that He expects permission or royalties to use His word.
