Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California
Our product was used on a national TV show. This is great for us because it is free advertising (we had no idea that it was going to be shown). However, can we mention on our website that our product was seen on said show and display pictures / video clips of our product being used on the show? Or do we have to get explicit permission to do this?

I think you should ask for permission. You might get away with using still clips without permission. It's always safer to get a written OK. The show's producers are in a somewhat weak position to deny you permission, having displayed you product.
Since the producers of the show have already shown your product, they shouldn't have any problem giving you permission to use the clips. This is the safe route to go. You can always consult with an attorney in your area.

You should have an attorney ask for permission, which will be freely granted. You might even get follow-up coverage, if you do it right.
