Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

Public domain

There is a book that I want to make into a script. The book was last published in 1934 and was also made into a movie that same year. Reguarding to rights. Is it considered Public Domain or does someone still own the rights?

Re: Public domain

Without knowing the name of the book and the author, it is impossible to answer this question. Copyrights from that period may vary depending upon a number of factors.
