Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California
Short Phrase
If I wanted to put a short phrase that is a play on words, how would I protect it so i could sell it exclusively. This phrase could be on a bumper sticker or T-shirt

Re: Short Phrase
You may be able to register a trademark in the phrase if you are using it to identify goods or services. Visit the US Patent and Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov) to learn more about this.
If you're just planning to sell shirts, and bumper stickers, though, you may not be able to protect the phrase.
Consult an attorney to get a better assessment of things. Only by knowing the actual phrase in question can really useful advice be given.
