Here are a few suggestions:

1. Look for a lawyer that includes business, contracts, or the like in his or her advertising. Someone whose specialty is criminal defense or auto-accident injuries (for example) is unlikely to ahve much interest in your concerns, nor for that matter, much knowledge.

2. Look for someone whose experience level is more or less compatible with the complexity of your issues. You may need a retired judge or a $500 an hour guy with a national reputation, or maybe a lawyer who passed the bar last week can handle the job at a great saving to you.

3. Find someone you like personally.

4. Find someone who has the time to answer your questions promptly and who will return your phone calls the same day, or preferably be available to take your call.
