If we wanted to have an Oscar viewing fundraiser, would we be allowed to show the oscars? Or would we need to obtain the rights?

In regards to fundraising contact the California Department of Justice, Attorney General's Officer as charities and soliciting donations (fundraising) is regulated by them and you'll need to do the paperwork to make your fundraising activity legal.

Also unless you obtain permission (which is unlikely as The Academy often rejects everything) you shouldn't use the word Oscar anywhere.

If you do have the fundraising and lack permission, you shouldn't sell tickets or show it on a screen over 55 inches. Yes, the copyright law states once you're above a 55 inch screen it may, again, may be infringing as a "public performance."
