Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California

I wanted to start a blog where I would review or comment on a new product (gadget). Would there be issues of copyright infringement if I take the images of the product from the manufacturer's website without permission?

I believe you would run some risk (mild to slight) of being asked to cease and desist, and an even slighter chance of being sued, and if sued, defense would be expensive but if you spent the necessary money you'd probably win. Fair use doctrine probably provides a defense for use of the manufacturer's photos to illustrate a product review, but defending a suit, when brought, is no fun. I suggest buying the gadget and taking your own photos.
