Legal Question in Intellectual Property in California
I am writing a book about my life and company. Can I use real names of friends and colleagues in my autobiography?

You run a risk of invasion of privact by using real names. If you can obtain their written authorization (specific contract), the short answer would be "yes"...so long as you obtained the informed written consent and waiver (disclaimer). So, you may want to seriously consider using other names along with a publicaiton disclaimer...to protect both the guilty and the innocent.

As a Franchise Attorney I agree with the other attorney answer. To avoid any potential problems, like invasion of privacy, get consents from all you intend to include in your book. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
