Legal Question in International Law in California

Enforceability of Foreign Language Contracts

What happens if someone who speaks only English signs a contract written French that was accompanied by an English translation, but didn't sign the English translation. The English translation states the contract was agreed/entered into, but there is no signature. Is that contract enforceable against the English speaker?

Thanks very much for any suggestions.

Re: Enforceability of Foreign Language Contracts

I haven't read the contract, and It Depends, but in general somebody who signs a document is presumed to have read and understood it, absent factors such as duress, adhesion, etc.

Most likely it is enforceable.
