Legal Question in International Law in California

Retirement Income

Hi,

My wife is a Canadian citizen residing in the US but with close ties to Canada. She will be 65 years of age in March 2007 and needs to begin applying to Canada for social insurance and old age pension programs. Will there be a problem for her to collect from these plans since she resides in the US and would it be of benefit to her to become a dual citizen since we are married and reside in the US?

Re: Retirement Income

You might wish to first contact Social Development Canada with general questions about the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security. As a Canadian citizen, there is no need to be resident in Canada to obtain benefits. (You can also have your benefits deposited to a foreign (e.g. non-Canadian, or U.S.) bank.)
