Well, the typical insurance company doing battle with you in Federal Court will be represented by a law firm with 10-plus attorneys with an average of 15+ years experience after attending law school and passing the bar exam. So, the preferred way to "fill out paper work" is to have a law degree and substantial experience with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, as well as tactical experience in the trenches of litigation.

If you want to avoid defaulting, get advice from a paralegal or the law library. If you hope to win, get a lawyer of talent and experience equal to your opponent's.
